“After assigning the house we were born and the surroundings known

with much devotion to the Sasanaya (Buddhism) 

The ‘Pinketha (Field of Merits)’ was built as a monastery

to the Buddhist monks arriving from all four corners……”  

This song written by the Veteran Lyricist Mr. Rathna Sri Wijesingha provides a great insight to the meditation center consists of a Buddha Shrine and a Library which was opened on 27th day of June 2014 at Ambagahamulla village in Yakkalamulla. 

The culture of Sri Lanka was built in the light of Buddhism. If those who offer all kinds of sacred offerings to Buddhism; are the ones who have worshiped Buddha, then it is these who offered this kind of “Pinketha” (Field of Merits). It is same not just in the past but also in the present. 

This magnificent charity was established as a tribute to the parents of late Mr. N. H. Don Dines and Mrs. K. P. Sesawathi; by Shasana Keerthi devoted Mr. N. H. Chandrapala, his spouse (Mrs. Lalitha Chandrapala) and daughter (Amila Chandrapala). 

Mr. Chandrapala, was born in Ambagahamulla home, having his primary and secondary education from the school of his hometown village and Godapitiya Central College, later entered the University of Colombo and obtained his Masters (Honors) Degree, and being employed at the Central Bank of Sri Lanka doing a tremendous service to the banking industry, currently lives in Riverside, in the State of California in United States of America. 

I see this great objective in creating the “Pinketha” meditation center and library, as a religious, educational and spiritual service to the Buddhist community in Yakkalamulla and surrounding villages.

“Pinketha” glows and shines today by spreading the aroma of Dhamma and Sil (Virtue) to all four corners day by day, performing an infinite service to the Buddhist community.  

“Pinketha” performs noble deeds every month bringing the community of noble buddhist monks from all four corners; in performing meritorious deeds such as Dhamma sermons, meditation programs, offerings to Buddha (Buddha Pooja), alms giving and Sil (virtue) programs, and all night long pirith chanting.

The “Pinketha” Housing Project, which is being implemented under the guidance of Mr. N. H. Chandrapala, is yet another noble service from this place in identifying the low income families in building houses for them. So far, 10 fully furnished houses have been built for 10 poor families under this housing project.

May I wish devoted dear Mr. N. H. Chandrapala and members of his family good health and well-being for awakening the hearts of the people of Yakkalamulla by providing this kind of shade in calming their restless (moving) minds. Finally, I am also grateful to have made such a note on behalf of “Pinketha” Library and the Meditation Center.

‘ඉපදුන ගේ දොර  හඳුනන ගහකොළ

පවරා දී සසුනට හද බැතියෙන

සිවු දිග සිට වඩනා මහ සඟනට

සෙනෙසුන් කොට දී තැනුවේ පිංකෙත…’

ප්‍රවීණ ගේය පද රචක රත්න ශ්‍රී විජේසිංහ මහතා විසින් රචිත මෙම ගීතය යක්කලමුල්ලේ අඹගහමුල්ල ගම් පියසේ 2014 ජුනි මස 27 වන දින විවෘත කරන්නට යෙදුණු බුද්ධ මන්දිරයකින් සහ පුස්තකාලයකින් සමන්විත භාවනා මධ්‍යස්ථානය පිළිබඳ මනා අවබෝධයක් ලබාදෙයි.

ශ්‍රී ලංකාවේ සංස්කෘතිය ගොඩනැගුණේ බුදු දහමේ ආලෝකයෙනි. බුදු සසුන වෙත සියළු පරිත්කාර පූජාවන් පුදන්නෝ, බුදු පසයම පිදුවෝ නම් මෙවන් පිංකෙත් තනා පූජා කළ  අයම වෙත්. අතීතයේදී පමණක් නොව වර්තමානයේදී ද එය එසේමය.

පරලෝ සැපත් එන්.එච්. දොන් දිනෙස් මහතාගේ සහ කේ.පී. සේසවතී මහත්මියගේ මව්පිය ගුණ කඳම්භයට උපහාරයක් ලෙස මෙවන් අසිරිමත් පුණ්‍ය භූමියක් පිහිටුවන ලද්දේ අඹගහමුල්ල නිවසේ ඉපිද ගමේ පාසලෙන් ද, ගොඩපිටිය මධ්‍ය විද්‍යාලයෙන් ද ප්‍රාථමික හා ද්වීතියික අධ්‍යාපනය ලබා පසුව කොළඹ විශ්වවිද්‍යාලය ඇතුලත්ව ශාස්ත්‍රපති ගෞරව උපාධිය ලබා ශ්‍රී ලංකා මහා බැංකුවේ රැකියාවේ රැකියාවේ නියුතුව බැංකු ක්ෂේත්‍රයට ඉමහත් සේවයක් සිදුකර, වර්තමානයේ ඇමෙරිකා එක්සත් ජනපදයේ කැලිෆෝනියා ප්‍රාන්තයේ රිවර්සයිඩ් හි පදිංචිව සිටින පින්වත් ශාසන කීර්ති එන්.එච්.චන්ද්‍රපාල මහතා, එම මැතිණිය (ලලිතා චන්ද්‍රපාල) සහ දියණිය (අමිලා චන්ද්‍රපාල) විසිනි. 

මෙම පිංකෙත භාවනා මධ්‍යස්ථානය සහ පුස්තකාලය නිර්මාණය කිරීමේ උදාර පරමාර්ථයක් ලෙස යක්කලමුල්ල සහ ඒ අවට ගම් දනව්වල බෞද්ධ ජනතාවට ආගමික, අධ්‍යාපනික සහ අධ්‍යාත්මික සේවයක් සැලසීමක් ලෙස මම දකිමි.

වර්තමානයේ සිවු දිගටම ගුණ දහම් සහ සිල් සුවඳ විහිදුවමින්  බොදු ජනයාට අපරිමිත සේවයක් ඉටුකරමින් දිනෙන් දින බැබළෙමින් පවතී. මහා සංඝ රත්නය සතර දෙසින් වඩමවා සෑම මසකම සද්ධර්ම දේශනා, භාවනා වැඩසටහන්, බුද්ධ පූජා, දාන සීලමය පිංකම්, සර්ව රාත්‍රික පිරිත් දේශනා පවත්වමින්  පිංකෙත උතුම් සද්කාරයයන් සිදුකරයි.

එන්.එච්. චන්ද්‍රපාල මහතාගේ මග පෙන්වීම මත ක්‍රියාත්මකත කෙරෙන පිංකෙත නිවාස ව්‍යාපෘතිය මගින් අඩු ආදායම් ලබන පවුල් හඳුනාගෙන ඒ අය සඳහා නිවාස ඉදිකර දීම මෙම ස්ථානයෙන් සිදුවන තවත් උතුම් සේවයකි. මේ වන විට මෙම නිවාස ව්‍යාපෘතිය යටතේ දිළිඳු පවුල් 11 ක් සඳහා අංග සම්පූර්ණ නිවාස 11 ක් ඉදිකර දී ඇත. 

යක්කලමුල්ල ග්‍රාමයට මෙවන් සෙවණක් ලබාදී ජනතා හදවත් පුබුදු කළ සසල සිත් නිසල කළ පිංවන්ත එන්.එච්.චන්ද්‍රපාල මහතා ඇතුළු පවුලේ සැමට නිදුක් නිරෝගි සුවයත් පිංකෙත තව තවත් දියුණුවට පත්වේවා යි ප්‍රාර්ථනා කරන අතර, අවසාන වශයෙන් පිංකෙත පුස්තකාලය සහ භාවනා මධ්‍යස්ථානය වෙනුවෙන් මෙවන් සටහනක් තබන්නට ලැබීම ද මම අගය කොට සළකමි.
